Parenting in the Digital Age: Reducing Childhood AnxietySpecial Interest"Parenting in the Digital Age: Reducing Childhood Anxiety” is a community conversation for parents and caregivers exploring how technology is shaping childhood, mental health, learning, and family life. Facilitated by experienced educators Jillian Mezera and Paige Friedman Young, the workshop is based on the work of Grant Eustice and Michelle Gustafson of MN Unplugged and the Distraction Free Schools Policy Project, and draws from the books The Anxious Generation and 10 Rules for Raising Kids in a High-Tech World. Together, participants will explore the rise of the phone-based childhood, the importance of play and independence, and practical, research-informed strategies families can use to create healthier and more intentional relationships with technology. Parkshore Aquatics PartnershipFitnessIn partnership with Parkshore Senior Living, we are bringing back our aquatics partnership! The class offered is Aquatic Stretch & Strength, which uses body weight, water resistance, and equipment to gently build strength, increase range of motion, and improve mobility. Classes run each month on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Seniors should call Parkshore Club at 952-848-5840 to register. Cost is $24/month for Senior Members and $27/month for non-members. Party in the ParkSocial GroupsParty in the Park is a fun event hosted by the St. Louis Park Senior Program. Everyone is welcome. Enjoy entertainment from 1 - 2pm and socializing with treats and coffee from 2 - 3pm. This event is FREE and no registration is required. September 16: Join us outdoors, under the dome at the ROC (3700 Monterey Dr, St Louis Park, MN 55416)! Parking is available in the small lot nearest to the ROC. Entertainment will be provided by the Big Stoop Band and cookies & bottles of water will be available during social hour. November 18: Join us in the Lenox Gym for a Veteran’s Day celebration. Perfect PastaCookingBring a ray of Italian sunshine into your kitchen by creating homemade pasta using a few basic ingredients. Mix by hand or try a food processor. We will use pasta machines to roll and cut or go "low tech" and try rolling/cutting by hand. Compare basic pasta with several recipe variations including spinach pasta. Savor your fresh pasta with classic meat sauce, classic tomato sauce, gorgonzola sauce, and a quick Alfredo sauce. Freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese is a must to taste as well as topping your pasta with almond pesto, classic basil-garlic pesto, and a walnut-basil pesto. Pasta is nutritious, economical and simple to prepare. With an extensive handout on tips and techniques, you can make perfect pasta every time - join us! This class is being offered through a partnership with Wayzata Community Education and will be held at Wayzata Central Middle School. *Supply fee of $14 cash is due to the instructor at the beginning of class. Puzzler’s Exchange, a MN 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has a curated collection of over 5000 large-piece jigsaw puzzles for those who need the larger pieces due to disability (seen or unseen), vision, dexterity or cognitive challenges.Puzzler's Exchange was founded by Linda Matter when her mother had a head injury that changed her ability to do all the things she found meaningful if life. Large-piece puzzles became an important part of her mother's daily life. Reiki - Level 1Special InterestLevel 1 Reiki connects you to the Reiki energy and teaches you the traditional, hands-on Japanese Usui Reiki technique. You will learn what Reiki is, how it heals, and techniques for being a proper and effective channel for healing energy to flow. In Reiki 1, you will learn the traditional Reiki hand positions used for yourself and others. In class, you will also learn the intuitive method of hand placement, which can enhance your confidence in your intuition or inner guidance. In an organized and relaxed program, the class combines teachings, discussion, attunements, meditations, and experiential practice.
