Join local author Miriam Ruth Black for a discussion of her novel Shayna, an inspiring historical story of courage, resilience, and hope. Set in 1919, the novel follows 17-year-old Shayna Rifkin as she escapes violence in her Ukrainian shtetl and undertakes a perilous journey across Europe to America with her young nephew, fiancé, and future mother-in-law. Steeped in the rich Yiddish culture of the Eastern European shtetl and New York City's Lower East Side, Shayna explores the power of family, perseverance, and the immigrant experience.
